CALL TO CONFESSON

PRAYER OF CONFESSION-Unison

Holy and awesome God, as we stand in Your presence, we are filled with regret for our many sins and failings.  You have put in us greatness and a deep longing for goodness, but often we deny our better selves and do only what is easy or popular,  At times, we choose to walk in darkness.  We do not care to look within.  We are unwilling to look beyond our needs and wants to see the needs of others.  Forgive us, O God.  Give us vision to see what is right. Give us strength to do what is right.  Guide us by the light of Your truth so that we go where You want us to go, for we pray in Jesus’ name.  Amen.

PRAYERS AND OFFERINGS

OFFERTORY PRAYER – Unison

Holy God, we bring our gifts to Your altar this morning, remembering that Jesus told us that if we were truly to be his disciples we would need to “deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow.” It’s tempting to try to follow, without taking the cross; or to try to follow, without denying ourselves. More often, we seek to simply take the name of “Christian” without the denying, the taking of the cross, or the following. Guide us, Lord, on this journey of discipleship. Use these gifts, and use us. In our Savior’s holy name, we pray. Amen.                                                                   (Matthew 16:21-28)
