GATHERING

ANNOUNCEMENTS

GREETING-Responsively

Leader: Come; let us walk in the light of the Lord,

People: that He may teach us His ways and that we may walk in His paths.

PRELUDE                                                                                                               Janis Farver

CALL TO WORSHIP-Responsively

Leader: We came from all places and all peoples to gather here today.
People: Some of us traveled across the ice, others came later in boats,
still others of us waded rivers or arrived in planes.

Leader: We found a land blessed.
People: Blessed with mountains and valleys, rivers and oceans,
fertile earth, wonderful woods, and promising cities.

Leader: Here, A dream was born.
People: A dream of freedom from all oppression,
A dream of hope for our children, a dream of people in community under God.

Leader: We have turned to nations and peoples who gave us birth:

People: Send us the voiceless. Send us the fearful. Send us the oppressed.

Leader: And so the dream continues…
ALL: And so the dream of America continues…
God, help us to do your work until your dreams come true…

PRAYERS AND OFFERINGS

OFFERTORY PRAYER-Unison

Righteous and Holy God: On our own, we know we lack the strength to be the people of compassion and generosity that will please You. We know we are drawn by our own nature to that which serves our own selves and which meets only the needs of the moment. As we offer our gifts to You this day, we are reminded that only through Your presence with us and in us are we are able to live generously, act compassionately, and forgive mercifully. Help us keep our human nature contained and our divine nature unleashed! We pray it in Christ’s holy name.  Amen.                     (Romans 7:15-25a)
