CALL TO WORSHIP—PENTECOST

Lord of all creation, all we have to do is to lift our eyes so we can see the beauty of all that you have created. All we have to do is to visualize the top of the Himalayas or the middle of the Pacific Ocean to understand your power and the vastness of your reach. So it’s with awe and wonder that we gather together, seeking to praise you and give you thanks for all you have done. We seek your spirit to sweep across our lives and to renew our souls. Breathe life into us during this time that we dedicate to you. Amen.

PSALM 104:24-34, 35b                                                      PB, pg. 533

OPENING PRAYERCreator, we come before you a broken people. In the face of all that life throws at us, we are reminded of how small, weak and helpless we are on our own. But, glory to God, we are not alone. During creation your spirit swept across the depths of the ocean, molding the chaos into your creation. During Pentecost, your spirit again swept across those gathered there and molded them out of their chaos and despair into the body of Christ. Today, sweep again across the depths of our needs,

and remold us into new creatures, people filled with your glory and power. Remake us again into the church you have called us to be. Amen.

PRAYERS AND OFFERING

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE: Joys and Concerns

PASTORAL PRAYER

Holy God, you have called us not only to be disciples but to make disciples. Help us to be grounded in your Word and recognize where you are at work in each of our lives. Let your light and love shine through us so our lives are witness to your glory. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We are thankful for the men and women who serve in our armed forces. This weekend, we especially remember those who gave their lives in service to our country. May we never forget the sacrifice they made on our behalf. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Grant wisdom and discernment to those who face difficult decisions. Enable them to think clearly and have confidence in the process. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Comfort all who grieve: those who mourn the loss of a loved one, as well as those who mourn changes in life circumstances. May they find hope in the promise of the resurrection. Lord, in your mercy hear our prayer.

Bring healing and grace to those who are recovering from surgery or illness, those who are exhausted and worn down, and into all the broken places in our lives. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

God, giver of light and life, we give you thanks for the joys in our lives: for this community, for our families and friends, for the pleasure of an early summer day and the blessing of being Easter people. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
