GATHERING

ANNOUNCEMENTS

GREETING

So we have the prophetic message more fully confirmed.

You will do well to be attentive to this, as to a lamp shining in the dark place,

until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.

PRELUDE                                                                                                     Kathy Nash

CALL TO CONFESSION

UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION

God of the Bethlehem star, everyone is searching for Your light shining in the face of Christ. The Magi sought Christ simply to worship Him. But Herod sought to appease his jealous anger. We confess that our motives for seeking Jesus are not pure. We do not simply come to worship: we come to Christ, asking His benefits of reassurance, health, and wealth; asking Him to fulfill the hundred petitions for not-so-important requests that we heap before Him. But the Magi sought first the kingdom. Help us, God, to follow their example, putting our own need in perspective, worshiping the Christ in love, content to be in Your presence, and laying our gifts before You. Then may we journey, trusting that Your goodness and light will accompany us all the days of our life. Amen.

PRAYERS AND OFFERINGS

OFFERTORY PRAYER

Eternal God: Through the study of Your word we have learned that in this mortal life we have the responsibility of caring for one another’s burdens.

This we seek to do in the presentation of our offerings. Particularly this day, and at Your table we present a communion gift to help meet the needs of both beloved friends and perfect strangers. May what we give be blessed by You, and bring blessings into the lives of those for whom it is given. We pray in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
